Randu pļavas ir vienīgās piejūras pļavas Latvijā, kas arī uzskatāmas par dzīvo herbāriju, kur 200 ha platībā sastopama trešā daļa Latvijas augu sugu jeb aptuveni 600 sugas, tai skaitā 37 Latvijā un citās Eiropas valstīs retas un apdraudētas. No retām Latvijas, kā arī dažādu Eiropas valstu Sarkanajās grāmatās ierakstītajām sugām te var atrast sarkano auzeni, ložņu smilgu, niedru lapsasti, jūrmalas āžloku, jūrmalas miķelīti, jūrmalas armēriju, jūrmalas āžloku, jūrmalas ceļmalīti. Šeit ir gandrīz visi Latvijas piekrastes biotopi, tai skaitā lielākais piekrastes pļavu un lagūnu komplekss.2006. gadā Randu pļavās ierīkota taka un putnu novērošanas tornis. Taka, caur pļavām un tām piegulošo kāpu, ko sedz priežu mētrājs un lāns, aizvedīs Jūs līdz putnu novērošanas tornim. Koka laipas vietām mijas ar vienkārši iemītu taku. Kopējais takas garums ir ap 1,4 km vienā virzienā. Putnu novērošanas tornis sniegs Jums lielisku iespēju netraucēti ielūkoties niedrāja putnu dzīvē vai atpūsties mierpilnā klusumā. Pie putnu novērošanas torņa ir pieejami vairāki piknika galdi.
