About the Guest House “Garīkas”

Guest house “Garīkas” is located in the middle of Kurzeme, Kuldīga municipality, between two small towns - Skrunda and Aizpute. A century-old linden alley leads to the house, surrounded by a spacious area where every guest can feel undisturbed. The guest house is set up in an old, small country manor building. The hosts are engaged in non-traditional agriculture – growing shiitake mushrooms. We welcome families, larger groups of relatives and friends, and colleagues for a relaxing stay.

• Cooling off – swimming in live water, in one of the 5 ponds located close to the house

Shiitake mushrooms

Shiitake mushrooms have been used in Eastern countries since ancient times, especially in China and Japan, where they still grow naturally on sweet chestnut logs, discovering not only their excellent taste but also their medicinal properties. More about this can be read in Kenneth Jones' 1995 book "Shiitake: The Healing Mushroom". This promoted the spread of these mushrooms to the USA, Canada, and Europe. They arrived here in the early 90s from Canada. Now they can be found here – in Latvia, Kurzeme, in "Garīkas". Shiitake mushrooms are valued worldwide as a culinary delicacy because they contain high-quality nutrients and have a very pleasant cream and nut flavor. Shiitake mushrooms are an elixir of life that gives energy to both physical and mental workers. Vitamins and other biologically active substances found in shiitake mushrooms prophylactically protect against diseases.
