Description
Par hidroelektrostacijas celtniecību Viesatu pagastā tika nolemts 1953.gadā. Lēmuma pieņēmēji šajā jautājumā bija tā laika lielākie kolhozi "Darba spars" un "Cīņas gars", būves izmaksas sadalot tā, ka 52% apmaksā lauksaimniecības artelis "Darba spars", bet 48% - "Cīņas gars". Projekts toreiz izmaksāja 513 700 rubļu. HES projektētā jauda - 56 kilovati. Elektrību HES sāka ražot 1955.gadā, taču jau 1957.gadā to pārtrauca darīt, jo bija pārāk maza jauda. 1958.gadā Viesatu ciems tika pievienots pie vispārējā elektrotīkls, bet tā paša gada beigās abi kolhozi nolēma pārdot hidroelektrostaciju, lai atbrīvotos no saņemtā aizdevuma un saņemtu lētāku elektroenerģiju par valsts tarifu. Tā hidroelektrostacija vairs nekalpoja savam mērķim līdz pat 90.gadu sākumam, kad visā Latvijā radās ideja par mazo hidroelektrostaciju atjaunošanu, ieplānojot, ka "Latvenergo" šo hidroelektrostaciju ražoto elektroenerģiju iepirks par divkāršu cenu, tādējādi attīstot mazo enerģētiku, sarosījās daudzi uzņēmēji. Viesatu pagastā uzsāka darbu pie hidroelektrostacijas atjaunošanas, (pagasta teritorijā HES bija darbojies no 1955.-1957.gadam), tika sakārtota hidroelektrostacijas nelielā ēka un atjaunotas abas turbīnas. 1999.gada 3.martā hidroelektrostaciju tika pabeigta un palaista ekspluatācijā. Praktiskā Viesatu HES maksimālā jauda ir 44 kW, lai gan sākumā bija domāts, ka šī jauda būs lielāka. Hidroelektrostacija darbojas atkarībā no laika apstākļiem, tātad no ūdens līmeņa Viesatas upē. Visvairāk hidroelektrostacija darbojas pavasarī, rudenī un ziemā, bet, ja ir lietaina vasara, tad tā tiek darbināta arī vasarā. 1999.gadā tika saražotas aptuveni 130 000 kw/h, bet 2000.gadā 141 000 kw/h elektroenerģijas. Hidroelektrostacijas vidējais caurplūdums ir 0,77 m3/s. Laikā kad HES turbīnas nestrādā, tam jānodrošina ekoloģiskais caurplūdums 0,024 m3/s. Ūdenskrātuve galvenokārt tiek izmantota rekreācijai.
