Description
Dievnamu cēla pēc arhitekta R. Pflūga 1849. gadā izstrādātā projekta. Viņa celtnēs izpaudās Bizantijas arhitektūras formas, un tās manāmas arī šajā baznīcā, kur apvienots t.s „krievu-bizantiešu” stils.
Baznīcai bija paredzēts viens un četri stūra kupoli un zvanu tornis. Dievnamu Vecsalacā cēla no sarkanajiem ķieģeļiem, ar apdari iekšpusē un izcilnīšiem ārpusē. Grīda sākotnēji bija no akmens, bet 1890.gadā to nomainīja pret koka.1873.gada 20. februārī celtniecību pabeidza. Baznīcas iesvētīšana bija paredzēta 1873. gada 13. aprīlī, bet kaut kādu iemeslu dēļ tas notika 15. aprīlī. Ikonas, zvanus un altāra piederumus Vecsalacas pareizticīgo draudze saņēma no Rīgas Eparhijas pārvaldes. Bet pašu lielāko zvanu, kurš svēra 49 pudus, draudzei 1873. gadā uzdāvināja Krievijas imperators Aleksandrs II. Bez šī draudzei uzdāvināja vēl piecus zvanus.1873.gadā Vecsalacas draudze uzcēla arī divas koka mājiņas, tur uz dzīvi apmetās priesteris ar ģimeni un abi psalmotāji. 1878. gadā apkārt dievnamam uzcēla akmens sētu.1873.gadā no 10. līdz 13. maijam Vecsalacas dievnamu apzaga – aiznesa apzeltītos sudraba kulta traukus. Vainīgie tā arī netika atrasti, un policija neizslēdz versiju, ka zaglis ir bijis labs dievnama pazinējs, varbūt pat kāds no draudzes locekļiem. Pēc Otrā pasaules kara Vecsalacas draudzes dievnams tā nopietni vairs nav remontēts.
