Description
Pirmā koka baznīca Mazirbē – Irbes baznīca – uzcelta 1766. gadā. Dundagas muižas īpašnieks Teodors fon der Osten-Zakens 1866. gadā ielika pirmo pamatakmeni tagadējai mūra baznīcai, kas iesvētīta 1868. gadā. Celtniecību vadīja vācu būvmeistars A. Šrots, bet būvdarbus veica vietējie meistari.
Taisnstūrveida garenbūvei ir poligonāla apsīda un slaids, augsts kvadrātveida zvana tornis ar poligonālu jumta smaili. Pirmā pasaules kara laikā (1914/1916) krievu artilērija uzspridzināja baznīcas torni, tas atjaunots 1927. gadā. Tornis majestātiski slejas debesīs 36 metru augstumā un ir kalpojis kuģa atrašanās vietas noteikšanai Irbes jūras šaurumā starptautiskās trases jūras braucējiem. 1964. gadā baznīcu draudzei atsavināja. Dievnams piedzīvoja pamestību un demolēšanu, bet Trešā atmoda nesa Mazirbes baznīcas atjaunotni (1985–1988, 1997).
Altārglezna “Kristus un Svētais Pēteris uz jūras” ir mākslinieces Guntas Liepiņas-Grīvas darbs (1993) – 19. gadsimta gleznas atkārtojums.
