1753. gadā barons Miķelis Riks sāka celt pašreizējo Viļānu mūra baznīcas un klostera ansambli. Baznīcā tās pirmsākumā bija 9 altāri, un tā bija viena no skaistākajām un greznākajām baznīcām Latgalē.
Līdz mūsdienām ir saglabājies muižkunga Miķeļa Rika 1777. gada 18. novembrī sastādītā un parakstītā Viļānu baznīcas un klostera fundācijas dokumenta noraksts.
Baznīcas centrālo altāri grezno astoņas korintiešu ordera kolonnas, virs kurām arhitrāvā uzraksts Quis ut Deus (latviski – "Kas ir kā Dievs"). Kreisajā jomā atrodas Jēzus Sirds altāris, labajā – Jēzus Kristus ciešanu altāris, kurā ievietots 18. gs. izgatavotais koka krucifikss, kuram piedēvētas brīnumdarītāja spējas.
Daudzās pateicības votas liecina par medicīniski neizskaidrojamām dziedināšanām un brīnumiem. Viļānu baznīca un tās apkārtne mūsdienās ir kļuvusi par ievērojamu svētceļojuma vietu.
