Description
Pirmā zināmā Rušonas katoļu baznīca ir bijusi koka ēka, domājams, ka būvēta jau 16. gs. Rušona kādreiz bijusi apdzīvota vieta ar miestiņa tiesībām, jo caur to ir gājuši lieli satiksmes ceļi: uz Daugavpili, Dagdu, Rēzekni un citām vietām. Kad tika uzbūvēts dzelzceļš un jauns lielceļš, kas vairs nešķērsoja Rušonas miestiņu, šī apdzīvotā vieta panīka un apmēram 1870. gadā zaudēja miesta nosaukumu.
1677. gadā jezuīti ar muižkungu Sokolovsku atbalstu uzcēla Rušonā koka baznīcu. 1766. gadā iepriekšējās baznīcas vietā tika uzcelta jau trešā koka baznīca, bet 1816. gadā par Ievas Seleckas līdzekļiem tika uzcelta pašreizējā Rušonas mūra baznīca.
