Uguņciema baptistu draudze dibināta 1886. gadā, tā strauji attīstījās, un sapulču telpas kļuva par šauru. Dievnama celtniecību, ko gan ar naudu, gan ar materiāliem, gan ar darbaspēku atbalstīja viss ciems, sāka 1892. gada pavasarī, un jau septembrī notika atklāšanas dievkalpojums. Baznīcas 8 metrus platās iekštelpas veidotas kā kuģa priekšgals, telpas pārsegums — bez papildu balstiem. Tas bija izcila kuģubūves meistara Mārtiņa Morgenšterna ieguldījums. Pats meistars ironiski salīdzina kuģa un ēkas būvi — kuģi būvēt ir nieka lieta, jo pie citām būvēm ir jāietur taisnas līnijas un pareizi leņķi, kuģiem visas līnijas tik nenoteiktas, tādēļ, lai arī kā iznāktu, labs vien ir.
