Par baznīcas dibināšanas gadu tiek uzskatīts 1567., jo šajā gadā Skrundas baznīca pirmoreiz minēta vēstures dokumentos. No literatūras avotiem iegūtā informācija liecina, ka Skrundā baznīca un kapi pastāv jau no reformācijas laika. 1711. gadā baznīcu līdz ar pili nopostīja zviedru karaspēks. Pēc tam uzcēla nelielu koka baznīcu mācītāja muižā un 1750. gadā uzsāka nopostītās baznīcas atjaunošanu. Mācītāja Frīdriha fon Boningena laikā 1899. gadā baznīcas tornī uzvilka jaunu zvanu, kas kalpo vēl tagad. Pirmā Pasaules kara laikā baznīcu stipri izpostīja, tajā ierīkoja zirgu stalli. Ādolfa Grota laikā baznīcā iebūvēja ērģeles un altārgleznu. Skrundas baznīcas ērģeles 1868. gadā būvēja K. A. Hermanis Liepājā, bet 1999. gadā tās restaurēja Ugāles ērģeļbūvniecības darbnīcas meistari. Pirms kara Skrundas draudze tika uzskatīta par vienu no lielākajām draudzēm Kurzemē. 1944. gadā vācieši uzspridzināja baznīcas torni, jo uzskatīja, ka tas esot kā orientieris krievu armijai. 1995. gadā Skrundas luterāņu baznīcu atrestaurēja pilnībā. Baznīcā redzama F. Špēra altārglezna “Kristus pie krusta”.
