Pareizticīgo sieviešu klostera pirmsākumi Valgundē meklējami 1894. gadā, kad pēc māsu Mansurovu iniciatīvas tā dēvētajā Pustinkā piešķīra zemi Rīgas klostera filiāles veidošanai.
Klostera celtniecība sākās 1897. gadā, kad sešas Rīgas klostera māsas ar Kalnciema rūpnīcas darbinieku palīdzību rada iespēju koka mājiņu pārveidot par baznīcu, un vēlāk, 1909. gadā izveidot otru baznīcu. Klosteris pārdzīvoja 1. un 2. pasaules karu, tāpēc tā teritorijā apglabāts daudz kritušo karavīru, par ko liecina vecie krusti atdusas vietās.
Klosterī var apskatīt divas pareizticīgo baznīcas: Kristus apskaidrošanās baznīcu, Jāņa Trepnieka baznīcu un kapelu ar iespaidīgu ikonu kolekciju. Nelielu priekšstatu par māsu ikdienas gaitām klosterī var iegūt, apskatot klostera ēkas un saimniecību. Pašlaik šajā klosterī dzīvo apmēram 60 māsas.
