Description
Tagadējā baznīca atrodas vietā, kur apmēram no 1600.gada bijušas celtas vairākas šīs baznīcas priekšgājējas. Pirmā no tām bijusi koka ēka ar velēnu jumtu, no kā apdzīvotā vieta ieguvusi Velēnas nosaukumu.
Tagadējās baznīcas celtniecība sākta 1896.gadā, 1898.gada 2.augustā notika iesvētīšanas svinības. Šī neogotiskā stilā celtā ēka būvēta no laukakmeņiem būvmeistara J.Brauna vadībā. Interjerā saglabājusies 19.gadsimta gotiskās formās darinātā iekārta – altāris, kancele, ērģeļu prospekts. Baznīcas apmeklētājus joprojām priecē Zauera firmā 1898.gadā būvētās ērģeles.
