Dobeles Evaņģēliski luteriskā baznīca, church

The church was built in 1495 on the orders of Wolter von Plettenberg, the Master of the Livonian Order. It has been rebuilt several times, and the spire of the tower got its current appearance in 1907. One year later, in 1908, an assembler from Berlin brought a clock with four-sided dial from Germany and installed it in the new church tower. In the early 20^th century, there were three bells in the Dobele Church; however, during the World War I they were, as a matter of emergency, brought to Russia where they were lost. A new bell was set up only in 1927. It reads ‘Wake. Encourage. Comfort’. Before the departure of Germans in 1939, the church had a German and Latvian congregation with their respective pastors. Several unique pieces of art adorn the church. In 2013, a granite candlestick in shape of the Holy Grail donated by the lawyer Andris Grūtups was added to the collection. Dobele Lutheran Church is an architectural monument of national significance.
