Description
Kādreizējais Smiltenes muižas īpašnieks, firsts Pauls Līvens pareizticīgo draudzei uzdāvināja zemes gabalu baznīcas būvei. 1895. gada 25. jūlijā tika ielikts pirmais pamatakmens un uzsākta baznīcas būvniecība.
- Smiltenes Sv. Nikolaja pareizticīgo baznīca iesvētīta 1896. gada 8. septembrī.
- Baznīcas būve izmaksājusi aptuveni 7000 rubļus, lielāko daļu no tiem ziedojis miertiesneša tēvs — Aleksandrs Saveļjevs no Maskavas.
- Pirmais baznīcas mācītājs bija Jānis Lietaviets, vēlāk šeit kalpoja Augustīns Pētersons, Romans Ziediņš, Andrejs Pakalniņš.
- Baznīcā atradās 12 ikonas un citas vērtīgas leitas, kurām piešķirts mākslas priekšmetu nosaukums, taču 1992. gada beigās daļa no šīm lietām tika nozagtas.
- Šī ir lielākā pareizticīgo baznīca Smiltenē un tās tuvākajā apkārtnē, Ziemassvētkos un Lieldienās uz baznīcu sabrauc ap 100 cilvēku.
