Viena no vecākajām Latvijas baznīcām – tās pirmsākumi meklējami 13. gs. Par baznīcas būvi stāsta vairākas teikas un leģendas, kas dzejnieci Aspaziju iedvesmojušas uzrakstīt lugu „Torņa cēlējs". Kanceli un altāra elementus veidojis ilggadīgais Madlienas draudzes skolas skolotājs un ērģelnieks Kārlis Frīdrihs Hūns. Altārgleznu „Kristus pie krusta” 1844. gadā gleznojis Georgs Rūdolfs Karings. 18. gs. 80. gados Madlienas baznīcā iesvētīts Garlībs Merķelis. 1936. gadā baznīcā uzstādīta piemiņas plāksne Brīvības cīņās kritušajiem draudzes dēliem. 1938. gadā zvanu tornī uzlikts čuguna zvans, kura 1,41 m diametrā. Valsts nozīmes arhitektūras piemineklis.
Baznīcā apskatāma izcilā latviešu mākslinieka, madlienieša Kārļa Hūna (1831-1877) gleznu reprodukciju izstāde, kas izveidota kā pastāvīga ekspozīcija.
