Senākās mūra ēkas drupas Latvijā atrodas uz Sv. Meinarda salas Daugavā. Ikšķiles baznīca celta 1185. g. bīskapa Meinarda vadībā, pārbūvēta 1879. - 1881. g., sagrauta 1916. g. Pēc Rīgas HES ūdenskrātuves uzplūdināšanas 20. gadsimta 70. gados to apņem HES ūdeņi. Mūsdienās drupas iekonservētas, virs tām uzbūvēts jumts, sala nostiprināta. Konservācijas nolūkos 2002. gadā drupām uzlikts metāla segums, taču konservācijas process noritējis arī iepriekš 1962. – 1963. un 1970. – 1975. gados. 2005. g. baznīca iekļauta Eiropas kultūras mantojuma sarakstā kā viens no sakoptākajiem Latvijas kultūras pieminekļiem.
Ik gadu Sv. Meinarda salā, pirmajā svētdienā pēc 15. augusta, tiek svinēti Dievmātes debesīs uzņemšanas svētki. Šeit notiek dievkalpojumi, kā arī kristību un laulību ceremonijas. Uz salas atrodas akmens altāris (tēlnieks J. Karlovs) un 10 m augsts metāla krusts (tēlnieks E. Samovičs).
Mūsdienās, lai apskatītu celtnes drupas, uz salu var nokļūt ar laivu, taču Rīgas HES ūdenskrātuves ūdens līmeņa pazemināšanas laikā, līdz baznīcas drupām, iespējams, aiziet sausām kājām pa bijušo ceļa vietu, kam abās pusēs saglabājušies vecās koku alejas celmi.
No 1. maija līdz 1. augustam uz Sv. Meinarda salas Daugavā ligzdo savvaļas putni. Dodoties braucienā ar laivu vai kuģīti, aicinām neizkāpt uz salas, lai neradītu kaitējumu putnu ligzdām, olām un mazuļiem. Aicinām atlikt braucienus uz Sv. Meinarda salu līdz 1. augustam!
