Ezera krasts pauguriem bagāts, no tiem paveras skaisti skati uz ielīču izrobotā ezera spoguli un tā salām. Ezeru iecienījuši ne tikai ceļotāji, bet arī makšķernieki. Pirms meliorācijas un ezera ūdeņu novirzīšanas darbiem caur Taunu un Inesi par ezera noteci kalpoja šodien jau gandrīz aizaugusī Gaujiņa, kas tika uzskatīta par Gaujas sākumu. Alauksta apkārtnē notiek ikgadējais slēpojums „Apkārt Alaukstam” – izaicinājums un neaizmirstamu sajūtu garants katram, kurš reiz veicis šo distanci. Alauksta krastā atrodas estrāde, kur savulaik notika tautā tik iemīļotās Imantdienas. Krastos ir lieliskas piknika un atpūtas vietas.
