Description
Rīgas rātslaukums, kura atjaunošana ir uzsākta 1995. gadā, izveidojās jau 13.gs. kā tirgus vieta. 1334. gadā pie laukuma uzcēla divas pilsētas nozīmīgākās ēkas – Rātsnamu un Sapulču zāli, t.s. Jauno namu. Jauno Namu sākotnēji īrēja Lielās ģildes tirgotāji un neprecēto tirgoņu – melngalvju brālība, kas 1713. gadā namu nopirka savā īpašumā. No 15.gs. to izmantoja Melngalvju biedrība, kuras patrons bija Sv. Maurīcijs. Nosaukumu “Melngalvju nams” ieviesa tikai 1687. gadā, bet tikai 1713. gadā melngalvji kļuva par nama pilntiesīgiem īpašniekiem. Ēkā bija viena no bagātākajām sudraba izstrādājumu kolekcijām. Samērā vienkāršajam dzīvojamam namam līdzīgā Melngalvju nama celtne ar svētku zāli otrajā stāvā vairākkārt tika pārbūvēta, un tās gotiskais pakāpju zelmenis 16.-17.gs mijā tika izrotāts ar Holandes manierisma formās veidotiem akmens un metāla elementiem. 19.gs zelmeni papildināja ar Hanzas pilsētu ģērboņiem un alegoriskām cinka skulptūrām. Sava statusa dēļ melngalvji ieņēma ievērojamu vietu pilsētas sabiedriskajā dzīvē un tradīcijās, viņu rīkotajos pasākumos piedalījušās daudzas tā laika VIP personas, ieskaitot Krievijas carus. Celtne aizgāja bojā 1941.gadā. Pēc Latvijas Republikas neatkarības atgūšanas sākās Melngalvju nama atjaunošana, kas noslēdzās 2000. gadā.
