Description
Ventspils Nikolaja luterāņu baznīcas būvēšanu uzsāka 18. gs. sākumā, bet tā ieilga, līdz 1834.–1835. g. to iespaidīgā ātrumā uzcēla, pateicoties mācītāja F.N. Paufl era apņēmībai un Krievijas cara finansiālam atbalstam.
Celta vēlīnā klasicisma stilā. Svētā Nikolaja vārds baznīcai ir dots tāpēc, ka tas ir jūrnieku un zvejnieku aizstāvis. Tās arhitekts un būvdarbu vadītājs bija Johanns Eduards de Vite, ērģeles būvēja J.T. Tīdemanis un pilnveidoja Kārlis Hermanis no Liepājas.
Aleksandra fon Rennes radīto altārgleznu 1888. g. Ziemassvētkos baznīcai dāvāja Ventspils un Piltenes draudze.
