1995. gadā Ogres pilsētas Dome, atbalstot toreizējā Rīgas arhibīskapa metropolīta Jāņa Pujāta lūgumu, pieņēma lēmumu piešķirt zemi baznīcas būvniecībai Upes un Meža prospekta stūrī. Ēkas celtniecību pabeidza 1997. gadā. Projektu izstrādāja arhitekts Laimonis Šmits. Baznīcas aizbildnis ir apustulis Svētais Meinards. Baznīcā aplūkojams valsts nozīmes kultūras piemineklis – sarkankoka altāris, kas izgatavots 1901. gadā R. Heizermaņa darbnīcā pēc arhitekta V. Bokslafa meta. Altāri dāvinājusi Rīgas Sv. Marijas Magdalēnas draudze. Pie baznīcas ir 6500 m2 liels dārzs. 2001. gadā tajā tika uzstādīts metāla krusts (arhitekte Daina Asarīte) un akmens altāris (tēlnieks Jānis Karlovs).
